Ross Gavin
Urban Land Use, Infrastructure & Transportation Policy Director
Ross works so all Michiganders can live in thriving communities that serve their needs, especially residents long denied of them. He does this by working with advocates, lawmakers, and governments to craft ways to give our state the best transportation, clean drinking water, flood prevention, and development.
The Berkley resident joined the Environmental Council in May 2022 after serving as a deputy treasurer for legislative and legal affairs in the Oakland County Treasurer's Office. There, he worked with elected officials, nonprofits, businesses, faith-based organizations and taxpayers to assess financial situations and help prevent property tax foreclosures. He also analyzed, reviewed and drafted state and county legislation on Oakland treasury issues.
He has also served on the Berkley Downtown Development Authority and, in his Treasurer's Office role, as liaison to the Michigan Association of Counties and the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.
Ross is still closely connected to the Berkley area. He serves as a councilmember of the City of Berkley, as a board member of the Oakland Conservation District, as a volunteer for the North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy and as a member of the Rogers Elementary PTA.
He rounds out his experiences with bachelor's degrees in political science and history and concentrations in environmental studies and public policy from Albion College. He then went on to receive his master's in political science and his juris doctorate from Wayne State University.
When away from work, Ross can be found reading, camping, hiking and fishing with his wife, Allie, and his son, Isaac. He especially likes going to their family cabin near Onaway, but any "up north" destination is a favorite.
