Lead Education Day Keynote Address

Learn about the plight of lead poisoning, especially in rentals, and what we can do

Wednesday, May 18 is Michigan's 12th Annual Lead Education Day. It is our chance to let lawmakers know lead poisoning is still a problem for Michiganders statewide, it is entirely preventable and there are solutions to this problem within reach.

Lead Education Day is hosted by the Michigan Alliance for Lead Safe Homes, a team of advocates and professionals working to end lead poisoning in Michigan. The Michigan Environmental Council, in turn, manages the Alliance.

To mark the day, you can learn about the effects of lead-poisoned homes firsthand from Grand Rapidian Tasha Garrett and Detroiter Alison McShane.

Then, learn about the state of lead in rental homes and what we can do about them with Todd Pierce-Ryan. Before becoming Washtenaw County's economic justice director, Todd spent years protecting families from lead poisoning in rentals as an attorney.

Join them at 12 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 on Zoom.
