Line 5's easement was revoked. That was the move Gov. Gretchen Whitmer made through a court filing and a notice Nov. 13 against the oil pipeline that cuts through the Straits of Mackinac in the Great Lakes. We cannot thank her enough for her bold leadership.
Conan Smith, Michigan Environmental Council's President and CEO, said Gov. Whitmer's bold decision will protect 48 million Americans and Canadians who depend on the Great Lakes for drinking water.
But the fight to shut down Line 5 is not yet over. We need your help ensuring Line 5 is shut down and removed.
Your donation will help us stave off any attacks made by Enbridge to change the outcome of this historic moment. The health of the Great Lakes and the 48 million Americans and Canadians that use them for drinking water is on the line.
MEC has joining forces with other experts - National Wildlife Federation and Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council - to prove to the MPSC that Enbridge's Line 5 oil pipeline is dangerous to our Great Lakes, our people and our economy. We are also seeking to prove that oil pipelines are not needed when cheaper, safer alternatives exist. But doing so is expensive.
It is an extension of more than 25 years of intervention work. With our expert testimony, MEC has helped save utility ratepayers millions of dollars and minimized the threats of air pollution and climate change from dirty energy.
Your donation, no matter the size, can help our cohort of intervening groups with the deep knowledge, connections and power to stop Enbridge from putting Michigan in harm's way.
