Gov. Snyder’s water infrastructure proposal an important step forward

Michigan Environmental Council praised Governor Snyder’s drinking water infrastructure improvement plan announced Thursday on Environment & Infrastructure Week.

“Surrounded by the world’s greatest freshwater resources, all Michiganders deserve clean, reliable drinking water, but after years of neglect our drinking and wastewater infrastructure is in dire need of repair,” said Chris Kolb, MEC president.

“75% of Michigan residents rely on public water systems, but many communities lack the resources to rebuild their aging infrastructure and keep drinking water safe,” Kolb added. “We welcome Governor Snyder’s proposal and commend his leadership in addressing a long-simmering need. This plan would allow for more preventative maintenance -- helping to keep Michigan residents safe by preventing disasters before they happen.”
