New Legislature, New Environmental Goals - Capitol Connection webinar
For the first time in decades, Democrats control the Michigan House and Senate. Pair this with a Democratic governorship, and our state becomes an even rarer blue trifecta.
This is a big moment for the environment. Democrats could take advantage of their moment to push for big bold goals that have historically come up short, like clean energy investments and better pollution standards. Republicans could take advantage of their slim minority to push for bipartisan legislation, such as lead poisoning prevention and energy efficiency standards.
It will all come as Michigan's new climate plan sees its first full year of existence and as decision makers figure out how Michigan's $10 billion surplus COVID dollars must be spent.
In our Feb. 24 Capitol Connection webinar, we'll speak to Rep. Abraham Aiyash (D-Dearborn), the newly minted House Majority Floor Leader and environmental justice champion. We'll discuss what environmental initiatives are top of mind for Michigan's leading party and what they'll do for Michigan's people and places.
