Action Alert! Tell your Rep to vote no on HB 4205

We have a huge and urgent problem. The Michigan House is poised to vote on a bill that would bar any state agency from setting more protective standards than the federal government. House Bill 4205, also known as “No Stricter than Federal,” was taken up in the Michigan House this week, after sitting stagnant for more than a year. We successfully held off a vote for now, but the bill will be back up next week and pressure is mounting on legislators to vote yes.

HB 4205 would have far reaching negative impacts on public health and the environment, not to mention it would drive up Michigan's legal costs. The Great Lake State should not rely on one-size-fits-all federal standards that only provide bare minimum protections for our water, air, land and public health. In order to protect Michigan residents from PFAS and other toxins, our environmental regulations should be shaped by state decision-makers and based on the best science available.

This is an all-hands-on-deck situation, and we need your help. Use this link to find your state representatives, and urge him/her to vote no on HB 4205. Emailing is great, but calling is even better.

We know your time is valuable, so here is an example of what you could say:

Hello, my name is ________  from ________. I am calling to urge Representative _______ to vote no on House Bill 4205, the “No Stricter than Federal” legislation. This bill forces Michigan to use bare minimum federal standards to protect public health. With PFAS and other toxic chemicals putting our citizens at risk, now is not the time to let the federal government decide what is best for Michigan. As your constituent, I strongly believe you should vote no on HB 4205.

From PFAS and lead in our drinking water to toxic air pollution and festering contaminated sites, Michigan is facing many public health dangers that we urgently need to address. State officials need to have the flexibility to do whatever is necessary to keep our families and our environment safe. But HB 4205 would hamstring state agencies from acting and would tie us to federal protection standards, which are under increasing attack from the Trump administration.

Once you’ve made this call, can we count on you to share this page with your friends and family to spread the word?

We need your help. A few minutes of your time could have a lasting impact on the health of Michigan’s people and environment. Call your state representative today.
