25th Annual Environmental Awards Celebration
Presenting our signature yearly salute
The Environmental Awards Celebration has gained acclaim for honoring some of Michigan's most inspiring and impactful leaders. This year, our 25th, carries on that legacy. Join us to celebrate these special activists on Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 6:30-8:30pm at The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn.
Helen & William Milliken Distinguished Service Award Winner
Donele Wilkins will receive the Helen & William Milliken Distinguished Service Award for her inspiring dedication over three decades to protecting Detroit residents. Ms. Wilkins has established and led two important organizations, Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice and the Green Door Initiative. These organizations have been vital in driving Detroit towards becoming a cleaner, healthier, and greener city, with a trained green workforce and an engaged civic community.
Petoskey Prize for Environmental Leadership Winner
Tommy Skinner, Petoskey High School student, will be presented with the Petoskey Prize for Environmental Leadership for his commitment to environmental stewardship, which includes organizing a student-led initiative to promote renewable energy and reduce his school district’s carbon footprint.
Now in its 43rd year of operation, the Michigan Environmental Council champions lasting protections for Michigan's air, water, and the places we love. With over 91 member organizations from every corner of the state, we move bold ideas to action to protect the health of our communities and steward our incredible natural resources.
