Michigan among most improved in energy efficiency

PA 295 Renewable Energy Standard credited
If you missed the release of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) energy efficiency scorecard in late 2011, Michigan Radio just ran a good story highlighting the news:

Michigan homeowners improve on energy efficiency

In the fifth edition of their annual scorecard, Michigan moved up 10 places, from 27 to 17.

Public Act 295 Renewable Energy Standard requires utilities to meet an energy efficiency savings goal of one percent of their total sales per year. The Michigan Public Service Commission estimates that for every dollar utility companies spend on energy efficiency programs, customers save three dollars in avoided energy costs.

The ACEEE report observed that Michigan’s improvement is particularly due to the implementation of energy efficiency programs advanced in state legislation P.A. 295.
