Michigan Distilled blog, social media growth expand MEC’s reach

Are you enjoying Brad Garmon’s excellent climate change piece and Hugh McDiarmid’s harrowing honeybee tale in this issue? How about Allie Muchmore’s “Michigan Girl” story last issue? All are versions of stories originally published on MEC’s blog, Michigan Distilled, which launched in February and has been providing thoughtful, regular content for fans of Michigan’s environment ever since.

Michigan Distilled is the latest in MEC’s efforts to broaden its suite of communications tools to draw more Michiganders into discussions and analysis of important issues affecting our natural resources and public health. We recently passed the 1,000-like mark on our Facebook page and we’re closing in on 600 Twitter followers.

So, if you’re not following us on social media, you’re missing out on informative and fun stuff like:

--Photos of MEC staffers testifying at legislative committees and information about the key legislation they’re weighing in on;
--Retweets and repostings of items from MEC’s 67 member organizations;
--Newspaper, radio and television mentions and appearances by MEC policy and communications staffers;
--Updates on key legislative initiatives, both good and bad!
--News on renewable energy progress like new wind farms and methane biodigesters;
--Reports on water quality initiatives and invasive species from around the Great Lakes; and
--Fun stuff like photos of Chris Kolb’s whippets spending the day in the office or hints on viewing the recent “super moon” rise.
