Our Mission
The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan, political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

Priorities
Our organization acts on positions which are the result of member study and consensus. We have national positions on air quality, water resources, solid waste management, nuclear issues, energy, land use and agriculture policy. The state League has developed positions applicable to Michigan to supplement. These include the Great Lakes Ecosystem, Pesticides, and CAFO’s. This year a priority issue has been clean air, which we have participated with other member organizations. We have called for a moratorium on new coal plants, preferring conservation and diversified energy portfolios to include renewables. We are a member of the Healing Our Waters Organization. We have called for safety, inspection and regulation for pipelines. Our position on fracking includes disclosure and further review of safety. Our water withdrawal positions could be used in future discussions. We have called on the Governor to veto “no stricter than federal regulation” law. Future concerns will include possible dune law changes. Our coalition partnerships include the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance.
